You can check the status of your ESTA application at any time. Visit the governmental website, click on the "Check Existing Application" option, which will take you down to the "Returning Applicants Check ESTA Status" section.

From here, you click either "Check Individual Status" or "Check Group Status", depending on the type of ESTA form you wish to check. If you are checking your individual status, fill in the application number that is unique to your application, along with your passport number and date of birth. If you do not know your application number, click on the "I Do Not Know My Application Number" option and you can access your application by providing other details, including passport number, date of birth, family name, first (given) name, and country of citizenship.
If you are checking for a group status, fill in your Group ID, family name, first (given) name, email address, and date of birth to retrieve your group application. If you do not know the Group ID, provide your family name, first (given) name, email address, and date of birth, and the Group ID will be emailed to the email address you provide. Once you have received this, you may use it to retrieve ESTA group application.

Remember that your ESTA application is valid for 2 years, so it is always best to keep a saved or printed version of the form showing approved authorization, so you know when you applied for your ESTA and how long your application is valid for.
Be aware that if your passport expires, your ESTA application also becomes invalid. If this occurs, you should apply for a new ESTA once you renew your passport.
